Ahhh Croup

So a few days ago William started getting stuffy, and had a low fever. It was 99.0 and he usually runs 97.9. I figured it was a little cold. Then he started getting a nasty cough yesterday. It got worse and continued today.

I wanted Scott to call the on call doctor/nurse to ask if we should bring him in. Well that was such a mess but finally they found an opening and Scott took him in. He has croup. Basically the symptoms above happen before the coughing starts. It's like a bark coughing. William cries when he coughs and it just makes it worse. Poor guy. Anyway he will now take a steroid for 5 days and we also bought a humidifier for the bedroom. Hopefully this takes care of it!

Also update on the poop. A. My son has the smelliest farts ever, he gagged the whole car when it was Scott and the kids :) B. Scott asked at the appointment about the constipation. The nurse told him that babies sometimes go a week or two without pooping because their body is just absorbing everything. So unless it's 3 - 4 weeks, seems painful, or the baby starts to change colors everything is a - OK. C. Thanks for all the comments last post! I like to read what helps!

Ok next question. William is getting too big for his car seat. If and When did you upgrade to the next car seat and what did you get?

  1. oooooh I can answer this one! If you have the LATCH system in your car (ALL vehicles 2002 or newer have it, and some brands that are older have it too ford started in 99 I think). If you have LATCH then without a doubt spend the money and get an evenflo symphony 65- it is amazing! We own a symphony and britax car seat (which are expensive and what everyone recomends) and i STRONGLY prefer the evenflo symphony! It is amazing- the straps adjust as the child grows without having to be taken out and rethreaded through those tiny slots, it can face backwards and hold a 5lb child or larger, faces forwards for kids up to 65lbs, AND becomes a boster seat for kids up to 100 lbs so you NEVER have to buy them another seat. PLUS it is the easiets seat to install and uninstall that I have EVER seen- it takes literally 30 seconds. If you dont have LATCH though I would go with one of the chaper evenflo models that has the same features but without the surelatch straps such as the titan or triump, or a graco myride65 that can be used to 65lbs. Let me know if you have any questions because I did a lot of researching before I bought and I LOVE the symphony- I cant even explain it enough! It was without a doubt worth every penny and I will buy it again when we have more babies and need more seats

  2. we have an evenflo also..we got wesleys at 6 months. he was almost 19lbs and 28" so i just put him in the carseat then...he was too heavy to carry....it will be easier to get him in and out when he starts walking.

  3. Patrick outgrew his at six months, we finally got a new one at seven months. I am not sure about brand or how much you want to spend, but we just got a cheap one. We eventually got a better one, but he has outgrown it now as well and we will be buying him a new one in the next few weeks as he it almost forty pounds. I would suggest whatever you do, buy the most versatile seat you can that will take you the longest amount of time without having to get a new one - you will probably end up saving money in the long run if you buy one that transitions through most of his weight milestones. We didn't do it and now are kicking ourselves.
